Corequisite None Recommended Preparation None. Catalog Description Meets the basic requirements of Penal Code Section 832, Laws of Arrest, as required by P.O.S.T. Recommended for those with current employment in a position requiring powers of arrest. This may include search and rescue, lifeguards, animal control, probation officers and allows for some limited support duties by Level III Reserves. AOJ 102 is offered in a 40-hour intensive format. There is no firearm instruction in this course. This course is offered on a Pass/No Pass basis only. Course Objectives The student will: Discuss why leadership is important. Discuss the components and primary goals of the criminal justice system. Differentiate between proactive and reactive policing. Differentiate between a detention and a consensual encounter. Recognize constitutional protections guaranteed by the Fourth Amendment. Discuss reasonable force as stated by law. Differentiate between arrest and detention. Differentiate between criminal and civil law. Identify the goal of a criminal investigation. Recognize what constitutes the legal chain of custody for evidence.
