Catalog Description Drawing II stresses the media techniques and craftsmanship of both traditional and contemporary drawing. There will be an emphasis on the expressive possibilities of drawing as well as its aesthetic component. Exploration of conceptual and stylistic developments of drawing as a vehicle for social and cultural expression. 4. Course Objectives The student will: a. Create drawings utilizing various media and techniques in contemporary styles which interpret and apply formal design elements. b. Use imagery to express personal viewpoints and explore culture. c. Explore contemporary media and drawing techniques, including digital drawing. d. Analyze the cultural implications of contemporary drawing. 5. Instructional Facilities Art studio with drawing tables, drawing horses, and easels. Wall space for hanging and critiquing artwork. Adequate lighting including overhead lights, natural lights, and adjustable lamps. Sinks with hot and cold water as well as traps. Storage space. Course Content Exploration of formal skills, conceptual approaches and the application of formal elements as applied to image making in a wide range of media, formats, and surfaces. Design, process, and production of drawings in multiple mediums and formats, including digital media. Perceptual and conceptual approaches to image making. Integration of form and content. Development and expression of diverse ideas and concepts through visual means. Traditional and contemporary approaches to the construction and presentation of drawings. Critical evaluation and critique of class projects using relevant terminology in oral or written formats. Inclusive historical and contemporary developments, trends, materials and approaches in drawing. 8.
