Catalog Description A course on the selection of freight carriers and the monitoring of their performance. Use of tariffs, rates, shipping documents, and contracts for carriage. All modes of transportation are studied including: air, truck, rail and ocean. Warehousing and materials handling are examined. Course Objectives The student will develop the ability to: Evaluate and select the optimum mode of transportation, taking into account cost versus time. Utilize freight tariffs for determination of freight classifications and rates. Prepare and utilize freight documents, including bills of lading, pack lists, commercial invoices, shippers letters of instructions, export declarations. Audit and control freight invoices. Analyze claim prevention, and file freight claims. Negotiate transportation contracts. Select the proper mode and type of transportation and appropriate facilitators. Set up an industrial traffic department. Review carrier operations. Identify FOB points and other freight terms of sale. Schedule inbound freight.
