Catalog Description This course is designed to introduce the Hospitality and Tourism Management student to the legal principles and issues common to the hotel and travel industries. Students will gain a working knowledge of the laws and government regulations applicable to the hospitality and tourism industry. The student will be required to identify legal issues and learn how to evaluate those issues in a structured format. Attention will be given to statutory regulations of hotels and food service and other areas such as contracts, employment law, labor relations, product liability and insurance. 4. Course Objectives The student will: a. Apply government regulations to the variety of areas of hospitality and tourism operations. b. Assess the legal principles and issues common to hospitality and tourism operations. c. Develop a working knowledge of common legal issues faced in hospitality businesses. d. Evaluate legal issues to identify ways for informal resolution or presentation to counsel. e. Formulate management safeguards to limit legal exposure in lodging and eating establishments. 5. Responsibilities as hotel operators to your guests. m. Legal obligations to accommodate guests and guest privacy issues. n. Rules applicable to the hospitality industry concerning loss of personal property. o. Legal issues relevant to travel agents and tour operators. p.
