Course Prerequisites A C grade or higher or Pass in Dance 080C, or 084C, or 088C, or 094C, or 118C or equivalent. Corequisite None. Recommended Preparation None. 3. Catalog Description This course is designed for the intermediate to advanced dancer who wishes to develop an awareness of proper teaching techniques. The student would implement these techniques into lesson plans for the intermediate technique courses offered at ڰAPP. The student, under guidance of a department dance instructor, will analyze the instructor's lesson plans as well as develop their own series of warm-up exercises to be discussed for purpose and efficiency. 4. Course Objectives The student will: a. Define current and safe techniques to be included in a minimum of three progressive lesson plans. b. Identify the proper sequence of exercise to be included in a thorough warm-up. c. Demonstrate correct body alignment, technique, and variety of movement qualities within the given lesson plan. d. Evaluate lesson plans in terms of creativity, safety, effectiveness, and longevity. e. Analyze master teacher's warm-up for sequential development. f. Analyze instructor's lesson plan in terms of locomotor patterns that transition into center floor movement combinations. 5. Instructional Facilities a. Dance studio. b. Course Content Tap dance as an art form, including discussions about the people, places, and events that have contributed, and continue to influence its evolution. Tap dance as a movement form, including discussions about movement vocabulary, techniques, and style. Skills in and single time. To taps, heel drops and toe drops, crawls, paddle and roll patterns, cramp rolls, brushes, shuffles, time steps, flaps, riff walks, and rhythmic patterns. Choreography and improvisational exercises. 8. Method of Instruction a. Lecture. b. Application of dance vocabulary. c. Demonstration of specific dance skills. 9. Methods of Evaluating Student Performance Skills testing in various steps and combinations. Written critique of live dance performance. Notation reading assignment. Final, consisting of performance of choreography and submission of notation. 10. Outside Class Assignments Reading and drills from the required text. Attendance and evaluation of a dance department sponsored master class. Attendance at a dance department produced dance concert for the purpose of critical analysis. 11. Texts a. Addendum: Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, our students will be able to do the following: Demonstrate a working knowledge of basic tap dance vocabulary and terminology. Define and demonstrate tap dance vocabulary appropriate to their level with a focus on articulation, correct alignment, and movement mechanics. Develop their knowledge of rhythmic qualities specific to tap dance, and will demonstrate their understanding by performing movement phrases appropriate to their level that vary in timing and meter. Develop aesthetic values as they relate to dance and , based upon these values, will be able to think critically about and analyze dance as an art form.
