Corequisite None. Recommended Preparation A C grade or higher or Pass in Dance 205. Catalog Description Supervised participation as a choreographer in the student dance concert. Student choreographers will apply intermediate choreography skills in ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, and modern dance in concerts and community performances. Emphasis is placed on student application for small group or large ensembles. The course is designed for dance majors and students interested in exploring the choreographic process of dance composition, staging, and performance techniques for the stage. Course Objectives The student will: Actively engage, as a choreographer, in the choreographic process in all rehearsals and performances as set forth in the dance performance contract including but not limited to incorporating compositional suggestions provided by the concert directors. Compose and manipulate movement material this is logical, compelling, and effectively incorporates choreographic theories and methods. Identify and differentiate between contrasting styles and genres of dance. Assist those responsible for costume design and construction, if applicable. Demonstrate professionalism in responding to directions provide the concert directors related to technical and dress rehearsals (arriving on time, prepared, approaching the work with a positive manner.) Evaluate and assess the interrelationship of the set design, costume design, and lighting design in relation to the choreographic process through a written critique. Adhere to all deadlines provided by the concert directors. Instructional Facilities a. Dance or fitness studio with mirrors and stereo system with CD/I-Pod player. b.
