Corequisite None. Recommended Preparation None. Catalog Description Participation as an intermediate dancer in the faculty choreographed dance concert. Students will be admitted into the course upon successful audition. This course is designed for the student who has had prior dance training in the college or studio environment. Dance 227 reflects the number of rehearsal and performance hours required for one choreographic work. Students enrolling in this course are strongly advised to enroll in one or more technique/movement course for the purpose of learning and /or reinforcing theories, vocabulary, and techniques that are applicable to the choreographic process. Course Objectives The student will: Actively engage, as a dancer, in the choreographic process in all rehearsals and performances as set forth in the dance performance contract including but not limited to: mental preparation, physical preparation, retention of movement vocabulary, mindful participation in guided improvisation. Demonstrate timeliness and consistency in weekly rehearsals. Assist those responsible for costume design and construction, if applicable. Demonstrate professionalism in responding to directions provide the concert directors related to technical and dress rehearsals (arriving on time, prepared, approaching the work with a positive manner.) Communicate with faculty choreographers and directors regarding choreographic intent, technical challenges and emotional content. Adhere to all deadlines provided by the concert directors. Address the physical and mental demands necessary to successful perform in one faculty choreography. Demonstrate knowledge of stage directions. Instructional Facilities a. Dance or fitness studio with mirrors and stereo system with CD/I-Pod player. b. Occasional use of video camera, VCR and video monitor or screen. c. Access to the internet.
