Catalog Description Advanced gymnastics skills developed and practiced on all the Olympic events for women and men. Emphasis on individual skill acquisition, improvement, and performance of gymnastics skills and routines. Topics specific to mens and womens gymnastics will be presented and discussed. Students will also learn the fundamental principles of physical fitness and their impact on life-long health and wellness. 4. Course Objectives The student will: a. Demonstrate knowledge of the history and evolution of the sport of gymnastics. b. Analyze and discuss biomechanical principles underlying optimal performance of advanced gymnastic skills. c. Improve level of physical fitness, including flexibility, strength and balance. d. Analyze, critique and assist with skill performances of other class members. e. Compose and perform a routine which meets specific advanced level criteria. f. Perform advanced level skills on all Olympic events. g.
