Emphasis will be placed on advanced level individual and team skills, as well as basic and advanced strategies. Students will also learn the fundamentals of physical fitness and their impact on life-long health and wellness. 4. Course Objectives The student will: a. Practice and demonstrate advanced level skills of softball, including hitting, throwing, fielding, sacrifice and drag bunting, slap hitting, and base running. b. Demonstrate advanced offensive and defensive strategies. c. Analyze selected offensive and defensive situations and alignment, and apply knowledge of strategies in response to each situation at an advanced level. d. Diagram and analyze different team offensive and defensive plays at an advanced level. e. Analyze individual strengths and weaknesses of opposing players, and opposing scouting reports. f. Discuss and demonstrate the rules of softball. g. Discuss the history and development of the game of softball, from its invention to the present. h. Demonstrate knowledge of score keeping, line scores and statistics at an advanced level. i. Demonstrate knowledge of the fundamentals of physical fitness as well as healthy lifestyle choices, analyzing their impact on an individuals life-long health and wellness. 5.
