Emphasis will be placed on beginning level individual and team skills, as well as basic strategy. Students will also learn the fundamentals of physical fitness and their impact on life-long health and wellness. 4. Course Objectives The student will: a. Practice and demonstrate the fundamental skills of baseball, including hitting/bunting, fielding mechanics, throwing, and base running. b. Demonstrate the fundaments of offensive and defensive strategies. c. Analyze selected offensive and defensive situations, and apply basic knowledge of strategies in response to each situation. d. Diagram and analyze different team offensive and defensive plays. e. Analyze individual strengths and weaknesses of opposing players. f. Discuss and recall the basic rules of baseball. g. Discuss the history and development of the game of baseball, from its invention to the present. h. Demonstrate knowledge of the fundamentals of physical fitness as well as healthy lifestyle choices, analyzing their impact on an individuals life-long health and wellness. 5.
