Catalog Description Instruction in intermediate techniques, skills, history and rules of baseball. Emphasis will be placed on intermediate level individual and team skills, as well as strategy. Students will also learn the fundamentals of physical fitness and their impact on life-long health and wellness. 4. Course Objectives The student will: a. Demonstrate and distinguish intermediate level skills of baseball, including hitting (hit and run, sacrifice fly, and hitting behind runner)/bunting (Sacrifice bunts 1st & 3rd, squeeze bunts, intermediate fielding mechanics (V-cuts, backhands, and slow rollers), throwing to specific cut-off players, and leads and jumps for stealing bases. b. Analyze and illustrate intermediate offensive and defensive strategies. c. Analyze selected offensive and defensive situations, and apply intermediate level knowledge of strategies in response to each situation. d. Analyze individual strengths and weaknesses of opposing players. e. Interpret and apply the rules of the NCAA Baseball Rulebook. f. Demonstrate knowledge of the fundamentals of physical fitness as well as healthy lifestyle choices, analyzing their impact on an individuals life-long health and wellness. 5.
