Catalog Description Continuation of ES 185A with emphasis on the development of intermediate level proficiency in individual skills and bouting tactics with the French foil. Topics specific to fencing will be presented and discussed. Students will also learn the fundamental principles of physical fitness and their impact on life-long health and wellness. 4. Course Objectives The student will: a. Demonstrate intermediate level proficiency of the French foil b. Improve speed of movement, muscular control and balance. c. Analyze an opponent's strengths and weaknesses and respond with appropriate moderately complex tactics and strategies. d. Increase level of physical fitness, balance, agility and speed as applicable to intermediate-level bouting. e. Demonstrate knowledge of intermediate terminology, rules, scoring and etiquette. f. Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of physical fitness as well as healthy life-style choices and evaluate their impact on an individual's health and well-being. g. Review terminology, rules, scoring and etiquette. d. Intermediate skills with the French foil. e. Moderately complex offensive/defensive tactics and strategies. f. Review the history of fencing. g. Increase proficiency and application of intermediate skills, strategies and tactics in a bouting format. h. Development of physical fitness, balance, agility and speed as applicable to intermediate-level bouting. i.
