Catalog Description Continuation of ES 185B with emphasis on the development of advanced skills, strategies and tactics mastery with the French foil in a bouting format. Topics specific to fencing will be presented and discussed. Students will also learn the fundamental principles of physical fitness and their impact on life-long health and wellness. 4. Course Objectives The student will: a. Demonstrate advanced skill mastery of the French foil. b. Analyze an opponent's strengths and weaknesses and respond with appropriate complex tactics and strategies in a bouting format. c. Increase level of physical fitness, balance, agility and speed as applicable to advanced-level bouting. d. Demonstrate knowledge of advanced terminology, rules, scoring and etiquette. e. Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of physical fitness as well as healthy life-style choices and evaluate their impact on an individual's health and well-being. f. Review intermediate levels skills of the French foil, including grip, stance, footwork, attacks, parries and bouting. b. Review intermediate offensive/defensive tactics and strategies. c. Review terminology, rules, scoring and etiquette. d. Advanced skills with the French foil. e. Complex offensive/defensive tactics and strategies. f. Review the history of fencing. g. Increase mastery at bouting through set drills and application of advanced skills in a bouting format. h. Development of physical fitness, balance, agility and speed as applicable to advanced-level bouting. i. Lecture/discussion on the parameters of physical fitness as well as healthy lifestyle choices and their implications to life-long health and well-being. 8. Method of Instruction a.
