Corequisite None. Recommended Preparation None. Catalog Description Intercollegiate competition in the sport of baseball. This course includes instruction in specific skills, performance techniques and strategies, as well as daily practice, development of physical fitness, team travel and competition against other collegiate institutions. The course is open to all students who wish to try out for competition at the intercollegiate level. An additional fee for athletic insurance is required upon enrollment. Course Objectives The student will: Analyze and apply the intercollegiate baseball rules in accordance to the NCAA. Evaluate and employ biomechanics and techniques used to successfully compete at the CCCAA and NCAA level. Develop and employ good sportsmanship and positive social behaviors during intercollegiate practices and athletic events. Demonstrate knowledge of physical fitness, training and conditioning techniques, diet, athletic injuries and musculoskeletal action and evaluate the impact of those parameters on life-long health and well-being. Meet all academic and athletic eligibility requirements as required by the CCCAA, NCAA, and ڰAPP Athletic Department. Instructional Facilities Access to the internet. Regulation NCAA baseball field. Course Content A structured lecture and practice format to include: Analysis, development and application of individual and team skills, offensive and defensive techniques strategies and rules including (but not limited to): Pitching: Two and four seam fastballs. Pitching: Cut fastball/slider.. Pitching: Two seam and four seam curveballs. Pitching: Split finger fastball Pitching: Circle change. Pitching: Stretch mechanics. Pitching: Wind-up mechanics. Pitching: Base running reads, pick-offs, and holds. Defensive Mechanics: Infield/outfield. Defensive Ball Reads: ball trajectory, angle, and flight. Defensive Strategies: Positioning. Offensive: Swing and bunt mechanics. Offensive: Implementation of offensive strategies. Offensive: head and feet first sliding mechanics. Offensive: Bunts: drag, push, sacrifice, and squeeze. Offensive: Base stealing leads and jumps. The development of physical fitness and the necessary conditioning for competitive baseball. Preparation for, and participation in, competition at the conference, regional and state levels. Participate in home and away contests that continually challenge the student-athletes to successfully apply all that they learn and practice in class.
