Catalog Description The purpose of this course is to provide training to develop skills and techniques necessary to play various positions in football. These skills are developed by a careful analysis of offensive and defensive techniques practiced in a non-conflict environment. Serves as the Non-traditional Season (NTS) preparation course for the intercollegiate team. 4. Course Objectives The student will: a. Demonstrate a proficiency in physical skills necessary to participate at a particular position. b. Practice the necessary techniques to execute various difficult physical skills. c. Analyze the advanced strategies in offensive and defensive play. d. Practice specialized skills used on special teams. e. Formulate a plan which will attack the weakness of an opponent or team. f. Identify the different styles of offensive strategy and set up a defense to counteract a particular offense. g. Ability to analyze opponents offensive and defensive tactics and respond accordingly. h. Describe and employ the advanced techniques and strategies of football including game experience, which formulates an understanding of the different styles of play. i. Examine and describe rules of the NCAA football rulebook. 5. Instructional Facilities Access to the internet. Regulation NCAA football field. Standard classroom. All phases of offensive and defensive football. c. Special team play. d. Extensive analysis of formation and execution of tactical plays e. Analytic approach to opponents offense and defense. 8. Method of Instruction Individual and group practice. Classroom lecture, on-field lectures, and demonstrations. Video analysis. 9. Methods of Evaluating Student Performance Fundamental football performance in game and practice situations. Daily charts and records of student performance and skills. Skill performance exam including final skill performance. Written exam on NCAA rules. Written exam on offensive and defensive strategies. 10. Outside Class Assignments Scouting reports.
