Course Prerequisites None. Corequisite None. Recommended Preparation None. 3. Catalog Description This course is designed for students with advanced softball skills. Instruction and practice in the advanced techniques and strategies of softball. The course incorporates game experience in which to formulate an understanding by the student of the different styles of play. Serves as the Non-Traditional Season (NTS) preparation course for the intercollegiate team. 4. Course Objectives The student will: a. Demonstrate advanced softball skills. b. Recognize, restate and interpret situations and strategies. c. Evaluate and compare opposition's strength and weaknesses. d. Design and formulate game plans. e. Analyze and appraise individual skill and improvement. f. Define, recall and translate NCAA rules of softball. g. Develop the ability to analyze opponents offensive and defensive tactics and respond accordingly. h. Describe and employ the fundamentals of hitting, bunting, sacrificing, hit and run. i. Distinguish the different fundamentals of throwing from the outfield, infield, and behind the plate. j. Explain and demonstrate the fundamentals of fielding, positioning of the body on ground balls, fly balls, and pop up moving laterally for the ball. k. Apply the fundamentals of sliding, fade away, hooks, stand up, and straight in. l. Analyze opponents offensive and defensive tactics and respond accordingly. 5.
