Catalog Description Intercollegiate competition in the sport of soccer. This course includes instruction in specific skills, performance techniques and strategies, daily practice and development of physical fitness. Team travel and competition against other collegiate institutions is also included. The course is open to all students who wish to tryout for competition at the intercollegiate level. An additional fee for athletic insurance is required upon enrollment. 4. Course Objectives The student will: Analyze and apply the NCAA rules of intercollegiate soccer. Develop and employ strategies verses an opponents offensive and defensive set-ups. Illustrate proper skill sets required in Intercollegiate Soccer (shooting, passing, heading, and aspect of goal keeping, etc.) Experiment and develop skills to improve physical fitness in an activity that will be beneficially carried over into adult life. Develop and model good sportsmanship and positive social behaviors according to the CCCAA and NCAA decorum rules. Illustrate and apply knowledge of physical fitness, training, and conditioning techniques, diet, athletic injuries, and musculoskeletal action and evaluate the impact of those parameters on life-long health and well-being. Meet all academic and athletic eligibility requirements as required by the CCCAA, NCAA, and ڰAPP Athletic Department. 5. Instructional Facilities a. Access to the Internet. b. Soccer field. c. Analysis, learning, development and application of individual and team skills, offensive and defensive techniques, strategies and rules including (but not limited to): 1) Pressure formations. 2) Advanced attacking patterns. 3) Midfield defending. 4) Methods of possession. 5) Shooting. 6) Passing. 7) Heading. 8) Dribbling. 9) Feinting. 10) Read opponents offense/defense. 11) Scouting. 12) Anticipation. 13) Collecting. 14) Set plays. 15) Restarts. 16) Goal assists (offense and defense). 17) Corner kicks (offense and defense). 18) Throw-ins (offense and defense). 19) Penalty kicks (offense and defense). b. Development of physical fitness and the necessary conditioning for competitive soccer. c. Preparation for, and participation in, competition at the conference, regional and state levels. d. Participation in home and away contests that continually challenge the student-athletes to successfully apply all that they learn and practice in class. e.
