Course Number Course Title Semester Units Hours ES 240 Athletic Competition 3 10 hours laboratory 2. Prerequisites Tryout. Corequisite None. Recommended Preparation None. 3. Catalog Description This course is designed to accommodate any in-season student-athlete who, due to a class time conflict, is unable to register for the class section for the student's sport. Though enrolled in this class, each student will, in actuality, meet the objectives and complete the course content for the specific sport class in which the student participates (i.e., Baseball, Volleyball, etc.). An additional fee for athletic insurance is required upon enrollment. 4. Course Objectives The student will: Perform and complete course content for the specific sport curriculum in which the student participates. Analyze and apply the NCAA rules for intercollegiate athletics. Develop and model good sportsmanship and positive social behaviors according to the CCCAA and NCAA decorum rules. Illustrate and apply knowledge of physical fitness, training and conditioning techniques, diet, athletic injuries and musculoskeletal action and evaluate the impact of those parameters on life-long and well- being. Meet all academic and athletic eligibility requirements as required by the CCCAA, NCAA, and ڰAPP Athletic Department. 5. Instructional Facilities a. Access to the internet. b. The athletic facility utilized will be determined by the specific sport in which the student participates. 6. Special Materials Required of Student a. Electronic storage media. b. Course Content The specific course content depends on the sport in which the student participates. All intercollegiate classes meet for two hours daily utilizing a structured lecture and practice format during which all students learn, practice and perfect the knowledge, skills and strategies necessary to successfully participate in the given activity. Analysis, development and application of individual and team skills, offensive and defensive techniques strategies and rules. The development of physical fitness and the necessary conditioning for intercollegiate athletics. Preparation for, and participation in, competition at the conference, regional, and state levels. Participate in home and away contests that continual challenge the student-athletes to successfully apply all that they learn and practice in class. Active participation in the Student-Athlete Academic Support Program as established by the Athletic Department. 8. Method of Instruction a. Lecture demonstration. b. Individual and group practice. c. Video analysis. d. Intercollegiate games and tournament play. 9. Methods of Evaluating Student Performance a. Ongoing assessments of performance, improvement and application of learned techniques and strategies b. Statistical analysis of player performance. c.
