Course Number Course Title Semester Units Semester Hours FREN 220 French III 5 5 hours lecture 80-90 total hours 2. Course Prerequisites A C grade or higher or Pass in French 121 or three years of high school French or equivalent. Corequisite None. Recommended Preparation None. 3. Catalog Description French 220 is the continuation of French 121. The course will continue to develop oral, listening, reading, and writing skills in order to acquire proficiency in French. 4. Course Objectives The student will: a. Show increasing ability to narrate and describe in past, present and future times. b. Communicate in writing with greater creativity in the form of short essays on contemporary topics and reflections about society. c. Produce cohesive sequence of sentences with increasing fluency. d. Read and comprehend authentic cultural materials such as newspaper articles and short essays. e. Compare and contrast French and Francophone cultures to their own and other cultures to further develop the awareness and gain a well founded insight into the language, customs, attitudes, values, ideas, patterns of behavior, foods, music, art, institutions and geography of French speaking countries. 5. Listening and speaking tasks organized around increasingly varied situations dealing with opinions, feelings, agreement and disagreement. b. Development of students' writing skills to enable them to produce in writing what they can communicate orally. e.
