Catalog Description An activity based course that studies music from regions of the Middle East and related areas through regular rehearsals and public performances. Emphasis will be placed on development of skills needed to perform in a large ensemble. Musical literature differs each semester to allow the student to meet course objectives through weekly/semesterly repetition in rehearsals and in-class performances. 4. Course Objectives The student will: a. Examine and formulate Middle Eastern practice and performance techniques. b. Distinguish and categorize the various Middle Eastern musical styles. c. Memorize the use and function of the various instruments associated with this style and play them in live performance. d. Prepare and present public performances. 5. Instructional Facilities a.
