Course Prerequisites Ability to play a musical instrument Audition 3. Catalog Description An introductory course designed to familiarize the student with the techniques and musical styles necessary for performing in a jazz combo. The roles played by each instrument will be explored and examined in detail. These techniques will then be employed by the students in performing assigned music together. 4. Course Objectives The student will be able to: Distinguish and differentiate aurally the sections of form within elementary-level jazz compositions. Demonstrate an understanding of basic standard chord progressions. Demonstrate proficiency in the performance of elementary-level chord progressions. Demonstrate proficiency in his/her instrument the ability to utilize elementary - level scales appropriate to jazz improvisation. Demonstrate proficiency in performing specific repertoire at the elementary level. 5. Instructional Facilities a. Large instrumental rehearsal room with piano and music stands b.
