Course Number Course Title Semester Units Hours MUS 224 Classical Guitar III 2 2 hours lecture 2. Course Prerequisites A "C" or "Pass" grade or better in Music 125 or equivalent. Recommended Preparation None. 3. Catalog Description Continuation of Classical Guitar II (Music 125). Advanced right and left-hand studies. Playing in upper positions. Sight reading and performance of advanced guitar solos. 4. Course Objectives The student will: a. Demonstrate advanced classic guitar technique by performing advanced guitar pieces using the first through the sixteenth positions. b. Identify and perform the techniques used for the pizzicato, natural and artificial harmonics. c. Perform and analyze the notes and positions of the upper part of the fingerboard (positions X-XVI) . d. Sight-read music of advanced difficulty. 5. Instructional Facilities a. Classroom equipped with white board with music staves, stereo audio system, videotape player, overhead projector and computer with projection capabilities. b. Chairs (without arms). c. Music stands. d. Foot blocks. e. Library-based computer lab available to students for using interactive software. 6. Special Materials Required of Student Classical guitar. 7. Course Content a. Advanced techniques for playing the classical guitar. b. Analysis of advanced guitar notation, signs, and symbols. c. Playing and practicing two and three octave major and minor scales and fingerboard position exercises using positions II through XVI. d. Advanced right and left hand exercises. e.
