Course Prerequisites A C grade or higher or Pass in Music 268 or equivalent. 3. Catalog Description An advanced course designed to enhance the students expertise with the techniques and musical styles necessary for performing in a jazz combo. The roles played by each instrument will be explored and examined in detail. These techniques will then be employed by the students in performing assigned music together. 4. Course Objectives The student will: Distinguish and differentiate aurally the sections of form within advanced jazz compositions. Performance of advanced level chord progressions. Demonstrate proficiency in his/her instrument the ability to play advanced-level scales appropriate to jazz improvisation. Perform specific repertoire at the advanced level. 5. Instructional Facilities a. Large instrumental rehearsal room with piano and music stands b. Stereo/video system with computer projection capabilities and the ability to record rehearsals 6.
