Catalog Description This course prepares the Orthopedic Technology student for the clinical setting with topics such as HIPAA, infection control, radiation safety, basic patient care, interpersonal communication, cultural diversity, ethics, professionalism in the healthcare environment, and expectations of the Orthopedic Technology student during clinical assignments in both the hospital and private practice setting. 4. Course Objectives The student will: Discuss and explore views on legal and ethical issues in healthcare. Interpret and practice HIPAA policy and procedures, infection control, and radiation safety. Describe and differentiate roles and responsibilities of an orthopedic tech in both the hospital and private practice setting. Relate the importance of interpersonal communication in the healthcare setting. Recognize and employ awareness of cultural diversity in the healthcare setting.
