Emphasis is placed on critical analysis of existing theories, research methodology, and research findings, taking into account the influence of factors such as culture, gender, ethnicity, historical cohort, and socio-economic status. The focus of the course is on understanding and applying empirical research and theories in developmental psychology. Course Objectives The student will: Explain the methodology used in research in developmental psychology. Explain and evaluate the contributions of major developmental theories to current understanding of developmental psychology. Evaluate and interpret research findings in the field of developmental psychology, taking into account the influence of factors such as culture, gender, ethnicity, historical cohort, and socio-economic status. Contrast current research with past beliefs regarding the psychological capabilities of the newborn. Evaluate theories and research regarding physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional development in various stages of life.
