Course Prerequisites 144-162 total hours A C grade or higher or Pass in Spanish 121 or 122 or 123 or 220 or 221 or three years of high school Spanish or equivalent. Corequisite None. Recommended Preparation None. 3. Catalog Description Focuses on intermediate level conversation development with vocabulary building and improvement of speaking proficiency in the context of Spanish-speaking culture. Conversations are based on everyday situations and cultural events. 4. Course Objectives The student will: a. Show fair control of most basic syntactic patterns and convey meaning accurately most of the time in simple standard Spanish. b. Complete simple conversations on everyday topics. c. Evaluate non-technical speech in everyday spoken Spanish d. Participate in cultural discussions and comprehend authentic cultural material such as newspaper articles and short essays. e. Compare and contrast Spanish-speaking cultures to their own and other cultures. 5. Instructional Facilities a. Standard lecture classroom. b. Smartcart. 6. Special Materials Required of Student None. 7. Course Content a. Listening and speaking tasks organized around increasingly varied and complex situations dealing with opinions, feelings, agreement and disagreement. b. In-depth discussion of cultural differences between the Spanish speaking world and the students' own cultures. c. Methods of Evaluating Student Performance a. Periodic written and oral evaluation of students' performance in listening and reading comprehension and speaking and writing. b.
