Course Prerequisites A C grade or higher or Pass in Spanish 250 or four years of high school Spanish or equivalent. Corequisite None. Recommended Preparation None. 3. Catalog Description Continues to focus and expand on intermediate level conversation development with more complex and varied vocabulary building and improvement of speaking proficiency in the context of Spanish-speaking culture. Conversations are based on current and cultural events. 4. Course Objectives The student will: a. Complete basic syntactic patterns and convey meaning accurately most of the time in simple standard Spanish. b. Comprehend and judge everyday conversations. c. Analyze speech in everyday spoken Spanish. d. Summarize cultural discussions and evaluate authentic cultural material such as newspaper articles and short essays. e. Listening and speaking tasks organized around increasingly varied and complex situations dealing with opinions, feelings, agreement and disagreement. b. In-depth discussion of cultural differences between the Spanish speaking world and the students' own cultures. c. Presentation of grammar explanations as needed to reinforce the acquisition and oral production of the language. d. Increased development of students' writing skills to enable them to produce in writing what they can communicate orally. e. Presentation of authentic and more complex reading material as the basis for discussions and presentations. 8. Method of Instruction a. Lecture and presentation of communicative activities and supporting language structures. b. Discussion of cultural content. c. Asking and answering questions. 9. Methods of Evaluating Student Performance a. Periodic written and oral evaluation of students' performance in listening and reading comprehension and speaking and writing. b.
