Catalog Description Intermediate Theatre Mime and Pantomime techniques through direct participation and demonstrations: students will learn how to act with the whole body, to communicate non-verbal statements, emotions, and characterizations. Students will work with masks, props, and music, constructing approaches to Mime that will focus on movement, control, and believability. Students may also be involved in a theatre mime production. Course Objectives The student will: Participate in intermediate level staged Mime performances and exercises and utilize techniques such as green screen physical animation and precise physical illusions. Analyze the importance of self-reliance, self-confidence, and self-growth through the craft of Mime. Demonstrate through class projects the art, ethics and disciplines of Mime theatre technique. Construct an intermediate level approach for stage Mime through non-verbal communication skills; focusing on movement, control, and believability of character. Develop non-verbal emotions and attitudes in characters. Instructional Facilities Lab Theatre space. Audio tape/CD unit. TV and VCR. Such as intermediate level silent scenes, commedia dell arte, figurative mime, and corporeal mime. Intermediate level exercises in movement, believability, sensitivity, concentration and imagination. Intermediate level units of physical characterization, and to perform a statement or emotion with their bodies. Units in ensemble acting. Participation in a Pantomime showcase. The intermediate level relationships of acting, music, and dance to Mime. Outreach programs and performance workshops. Method of Instruction Lecture. Classroom discussions. Rehearsals. Demonstrations. Methods of Evaluating Student Performance Critique and judge individual performances of selected scenes/monologues. Written character/scriptural analysis. Written journal logging experiences and observations in class and outside the theatre. Final performance project in Mime. Outside Class Assignments Rehearsals of scenes.
