Course Prerequisites A C grade or higher or Pass in Theatre Arts 131 or equivalent. Corequisite None. Recommended Preparation None. 3. Catalog Description Elementary techniques of directing, including casting, rehearsal scheduling, blocking, focusing, interpreting, and translating of dramatic literature in acting; a basic study of character and environmental analysis. 4. Course Objectives The student will: a. Analyze theory and concepts in play direction. b. Differentiate text analysis. c. Distinguish picturization and composition. d. Calculate basic design, directorial vision/method. e. Prepare and complete a basic directorial concept for play. 5. Instructional Facilities Rehearsal facilities for approximately 10 to 15 one-act plays. 6. Special Materials Required of Student None. 7. Course Content a. Selection of play, pre-casting production planning, casting, rehearsal scheduling, basic level interpretation of dramatic literature for production, blocking, focusing, use of line, color and rhythm to unify a production. b. Basic actor-director relationships, coordination of technical aspects of production (set, props, costumes, etc.). c. Dramaturgical research of style, mannerisms, social customs, and background.
