Course Prerequisites A C grade or higher or Pass in Theatre Arts 131 or equivalent. Corequisite None. Recommended Preparation None. 3. Catalog Description Advanced development and strengthening of individual insights, abilities, and discipline needed to create a dramatic character on stage. Focus on collaboration and individual development, creative process, and reading skills with special emphasis on Shakespeare, Classic, and Modern Realism. 4. Course Objectives The student will: a. Analyze characterizations objectively, using both body and voice. b. Develop techniques in scansion on analysis of Shakespearean text. c. Differentiate character behavior, cause and effect, the moment to moment process. d. Compare, contrast and demonstrate acting styles for both Shakespearean verse, Classic, and Modern Realism prose. e. Practice reading skills through different literary acting genres. 5. Instructional Facilities Large empty room with chairs and tables, or lab theatre, whiteboard and ability to project media. 6. Special Materials Required of Student Three ring binder for portfolio. 7. Course Content a. Developing advanced reading skills in Shakespeare, Classic and Modern Realism. b. Analyzing character from a script (Shakespeare/Classic and Modern Realism). c. Transforming knowledge of character into the reality of action through body and voice. d. Building a character through concentration and imagination. e. Audition material, Shakespearean soliloquies, Classic and Modern Realism monologues. f. Shakespearean scenes and Classic and Modern Realism scenes. THEATRE ARTS 230 ACTING III page 2 8. Method of Instruction a. Lecture and demonstration on advanced acting techniques for Shakespeare and realistic monologues and scenes. b. Presentation of scenes for review, criticism and discussion. 9. Methods of Evaluating Student Performance a. Critique and judge individual performances of selected scenes/monologues throughout the semester. b. Final performance project in acting. c. Written portfolio. d. Written character/script analysis. 10. Outside Class Assignments a. Performance rehearsals including memorization. b. Required attendance at ڰAPP productions. c. Written portfolio. d.
