Explore your world! Drought... Fire... Hurricanes... Climate Change... Quakes...
Resource management... Environmental stress... Maps... Resource Sustainability...
Atmospheric Rivers... Flooding... Computer mapping and GIS... Beaches... The focus
of geography is “WHERE”, and it integrates across all the Earth and Environmental
Sciences. Come study the Earth system, and its material and energy flows as expressed
by storms, climate, ecosystems, seasonal change, plate tectonics, stream and glacial
activity, beach systems, including the result of human interactions. Geographers
use mapping and computer modeling to link field work to a broad spectrum of environmental
careers.
The Associate of Arts (local) Degree in Geography can be attained without buying textbooks.
For more information, visit the ZTC Webpage or Search for Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) sections in the class schedule, by selecting
ZTC under "Course Type."
ZTC applies to specific sections, and not necessarily all sections of a course in
an academic plan.
Duration
We offer a local Associate of Arts (AA) degree, and an Associate of Arts for Transfer
Degree in Geography. These degrees can be earned in 4 semesters if you are a full-time
student and prepare you for transfer to a four-year institution. A certificate of
proficiency can be earned in as little as one semester.
Certificates of Proficiency are designed for the student who needs to be prepared
for effective interaction in a diverse workplace or other settings. A department-issued
certificate may be awarded upon successful completion of a prescribed course of study.
These certificates will not appear on a student’s transcript.
